National Honor Society (NHS) and California Scholarship Federation (CSF) are nationally recognized scholarship organizations.  Admission for National Honor Society is based on grade point average, leadership, community service, and character while admission to the California Scholarship Federation is based strictly on grade point average.

Being a member of National Honor Society and/or the California Scholarship Federation looks great on college applications.  They offer special recognition at graduation and possible scholarship opportunities.

California Scholarship Federation (CSF)

Founded in 1921, the California Scholarship Federation is the oldest scholarship institution in the state of California. The California Scholarship Federation emphasizes high standards of scholarship and community service for California high school students.  The motto for CSF is “Scholarship  for Service”.

CSF membership is based on the semester academic grade point average.  CSF uses a point system in which grades are given points; approximately a 3.60 grade point average will grant you membership to CSF.  To secure membership in the California Scholarship Federation, a student must earn sufficient points from pre-approved course lists.

Membership can begin with the second semester freshman grades.  At the beginning of the sophomore year and every semester thereafter, eligible member should complete the CSF application.  This application is available for the first two weeks of each semester.  It may be picked up in the Main Office.

In order to be eligible for a gold CSF stole at graduation, students must maintain a semester academic grade point average of 3.60 or above for any four of the five semesters beginning with the first semester of sophomore year and must include first semester senior year grades.

Gold stoles, gold diploma seals and CSF pins are distributed prior to graduation.

National Honor Society (NHS)

Membership in the National Honor Society is both an honor and a responsibility.  Students are expected to maintain and demonstrate the qualities of scholarship, service, leadership and character.

NHS membership is based on the semester total grade point average.  Students with a semester total grade point average of 3.60 are eligible to apply for NHS membership following their sophomore year.  Eligible students must complete an NHS application within the first two weeks of the semester. The applications are then reviewed by the Honor Society committee who will review the student’s background in service, leadership, and character. The committee will then determine which students should be invited into the National Honor Society

Unlike CSF, if a student’s semester total grade point average falls below a 3.60, they are no longer eligible to wear the NHS cord at graduation.

In order to wear a lifetime member cord at graduation, students must maintain a semester total gpa of 3.60 or higher for a minimum of three consecutive semesters (fall and spring junior year and fall senior year).

Gold cords and National Honor Society certificates are distributed prior to graduation.
